Development fair draws huge crowd on closing day

DHAKA, Oct 06, 2018 (BSS) – The three-day 4th Development Fair-2018 drew huge crowds on the closing day today as people from all strata thronged to the International Trade Fair ground in Agargaon.

With the theme ‘Indomitable Bangladesh in Advancement of Development’, the fair was organized to showcase the government’s development achievements made in the last 10 years.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the three-day fair across the country, including the national one in the capital, through videoconferencing from her official residence, Ganabhaban, on October 4.

In the capital, the national-level fair was held on the International Trade Fair ground in Agargaon where 330 stalls, including 11 of Information Ministry, 20 of Education Ministry, 19 of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry, 16 of Home Affairs Ministry, 14 of Agriculture Ministry, 10 of Health and Family Welfare Ministry and nine of Road Transport and Bridge Ministry, were set up to showcase the government’s development activities.

During the fair, special focus was given on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 10 Special Initiatives, international recognitions and successes, Vision-2021 and 2041, ICT development, Bangabandhu Satellite, Padma Bridge project and Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. The country’s investment potentials were also highlighted.

The three-day fair also included seminars, branding the country’s districts, providing different services to the citizens and cultural functions.

A seminar titled ‘Bangabandhu’s Development Philosophy and Today’s Bangladesh’ was held on the first day of the fair while another seminar titled ‘Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 10 Special Initiatives and Sustainable Development Goals’ was held on the second day.

Besides, a seminar titled ‘Literate Nation, Prosperous Country – Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh’ was organised today on the last day of the fair.

The fair was characterized by cultural functions daily where folk singers and popular artistes performed.

The Department of Mass Communication (DMC) displayed the government achievements and development activities through its offices in 64 districts. The 12 regional office of Bangladesh Betar and other departments-offices of the information ministry also highlighted their development activities.

Reality shows and essay and paining competitions were organized at the fair venues for students.

Similar fairs were also held at Bangladesh missions abroad so that Bangladesh nationals, living abroad, can know about the government’s development efforts and its achievements.
