Palestine beat Nepal 1-0 to emerge group top in Bangabandhu Gold Cup

SYLHET, Oct 6, 2018 (BSS) – Tournament favorite Palestine emerged group top in the Bangabandhu International Gold Cup Football beating defending champions Nepal by 1-0 goal in their second and last group A match held on Saturday at Sylhet District Stadium.

After the barren first half, Khaled Salem finally broke the deadlock scoring the all-important goal for Palestine in the 70th minute of the match.

Palestine will now face group B runners-up Bangladesh in the second semifinal schedule to be held on October 10 after the first semi-final between group B champions the Philippines and group A runners-up Tajikistan on October 9. Both the semifinals will be held at Cox’s Bazar Stadium.

The final of the tournament is set to be held on October 12 at country’s premier venue Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Earlier, Palestine got off to a winning start in the tournament beating Tajikistan by 2-0 goals while Nepal also went down by the same identical margin of 2-0 goals to Tajikistan in both their respective group A opening matches.
