Bangladesh lose to Philippines to finish group runners-up

SYLHET, Oct 5, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh finished group runners-up when they suffered a solitary goal defeat to the Philippines in their group B last encounter of Bangabandhu International Gold Cup Football held on Friday at Sylhet District Stadium.

Bangladesh will now meet group A champions in the second semifinal scheduled to be held on October 10.

While with this win, Philippines emerged group B champions securing full six points from two matches and they will meet group A runners-up in the first semi-final scheduled to be held on October 9. Both the semi-finals will be played at Cox’s Bazar Stadium.

In the day’s match, Kenshiro Daniels scored the all-important goal for the Philippines in the 24th minute of the match with a placing shot from close range.

After the resumption, Bangladesh desperately tried to fight back in the match launching several attacks but failed to create any of those in the goals.

Earlier, Bangladesh got off to a winning start in the tournament beating Laos by a solitary goal while the Philippines inflicted a 3-1 goal defeat to Laos in both their respective group opening matches.

Meanwhile, tournament favorite Palestine will face defending champions Nepal in their last group A match scheduled to be held tomorrow at the same venue.
