Bangladesh loss to Finland in open section in Chess Olympiad

DHAKA, Oct 5, 2018 (BSS) – Sixty four seeded Bangladesh team lost to 53
seeded Finland by 1.5-2.5 game points in 10th or penultimate round match in
open section of the 43rd World Chess Olympiad now being held at Sports Place
in Batumi in Georgia.

In 10th round open section matches were held on Thursday with GM Mollah
Abdullah Al Rakib (Rating-2472) drew with GM Nyback Tomi (Rating-2579) of
Finland, GM Ziaur Rahman (Rating-2477) drew with IM Karttunen Mika (Rating-
2472) of Finland and FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman (Rating-2263) drew with FM
Keinanen Toivo (Rating-2402) of Finland and GM Enamul Hossain Razib (Rating-
2452) lost to IM Sipila Vilka (Rating-2381) of Finland. Bangladesh team
earned 11 points out 10 matches in open section.

In 10th round women’s section matches, Bangladesh women’s team lost to
Slovakia by 0.5-3.5 game points. Only WIM Rani Hamid (Rating-1909) drew with
WFM Ferkova Dominik (Rating-2060) of Slovakia. WIM Shamima Akter Liza
(Rating-2152) lost to IM Repkova Eva (Rating-2288) of Slovakia, WFM Tanima
Pareen (Rating-2020) lost to IM Stockova Zuzana (Rating-2290) of Slovakia and
WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin (Rating-1974) lost to WGM Cibickova Zuzana
(Rating-2268) of Slovakia.

Bangladesh woman’s team earned 11 points after 10th round matches.
