US to give $14.5m for Rohingyas: US Ambassador

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2017 (BSS) – US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat today said the United States would give a grant of 14.5 million US dollars to help the Rohingya people, who are now being sheltered in Bangladesh.

“The United States of America feels proud to be a part with Bangladesh in helping Rohingyas, who have fled from Myanmar,” she said when she made a courtesy call-on Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim at his Secretariat office here.

Hailing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as well as Mohammad Nasim for ensuring health services for the Rohingya people within a short time, Bernicat said Bangladesh had done a great humanitarian task by giving shelter to Rohingyas.

Health Minister Nasim expressed his gratuity to the US for playing an effective role at the United Nations Security Council on the Rohingya issue.

During the meeting, they also discussed bilateral issues of common concerns.

Health Services Division Secretary Md Sirajul Haq Khan, Health Education Division Secretary Foyez Ahmed and Additional Secretary of the ministry Md Habibur Rahman Khan, among others, were present.
