EC ready to make next general election fair: CEC

DINAJPUR, Sept 25, 2018 (BSS) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM
Nurul Huda today said the Election Commission (EC) has taken all-out
preparations for holding the upcoming parliamentary election in a free, fair
and peaceful manner.

“Apart from identifying the people who could create obstacle to holding a
free, fair and peaceful election, legal actions will also be taken against
them,” he told a meeting at the hall room of Deputy Commissioner’s (DC)
office here.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the CEC told local journalists that he
held the coordination meeting with district administration, officials of
police, BGB and RAB, and representatives of Ansar and district level EC
officials.

Analysing the information revealed at the meeting, he said, all kind of
necessary materials will be supplied and assistances will be provided to the
people, who will be engaged in taking votes, for ensuring security at field
level.

Steps will be taken so that voters can go to the polling centres and
return home safely after casting their votes, Huda said, adding that if any
allegation of negligence and nepotism is found against any official engaged
in the election process, action will be taken against his or her.

“No irregularity and negligence will be tolerated,” he said.

The CEC said the election is supposed to be held between December 31,
2018 and January 28.

Chaired by Dinajpur DC Dr ANM Abdus Sabur, the meeting was attended,
among others, by Joint Secretary of the EC Khandaker Mizanur Rahman, Dinajpur
Superintendent of Police Syed Abu Sayem, BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant
Colonel Morshedur Rahman, RAB-13 Camp Commander Major Sohel Hossain and
Regional Election Officer (Rangpur) GM Sahadam Hossain.
