PM leaves Dhaka for Paris tomorrow to join ‘One Planet Summit’

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2017 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave the city tomorrow for Paris on a three-day official visit to attend the ‘One Planet Summit’ that will kick off at the “La Seine Musicale” in France on Tuesday.

Over 100 world leaders along with 2,000 participants from non-governmental organisations, foundations, public and private sectors are expected to join the summit for accelerating the common goals to fight climate change challenges.

An Emirates flight carrying the Prime Minister and members of her entourage will leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport tomorrow morning.

The Premier will join the Summit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali here today.

Briefing newsmen on the PM’s upcoming visit, Ali said Sheikh Hasina would hold a bilateral meeting with the President of France apart from joining a ‘High-Level Segment’ of the Summit that brings together actors of public and private sectors working in fighting climate change.

“In the High-Level Segment, the Prime Minister will announce Bangladesh’s future work plan on adaptation and climate resilience along with her government’s successes in achieving SDGs by facing climate change challenges,” he said.

Referring to the Hasina-Macron bilateral talks, the foreign minister said current Rohingya crisis, expansion of bilateral trade, bilateral cooperation in achieving SDGs and launching of Bangabandhu satellite will feature the talks of the two leaders.

“The visit will further cement Bangladesh-France bilateral ties,” the foreign minister added.

Concluding her three-day Paris visit, the Prime Minister will return home on December 14, he said.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque attended the press briefing.
