999 flood-hit families get Tk 79.92-lakh WFP cash assistance

RANGPUR, Nov 13, 2017 (BSS) -The World Food Programme (WFP) has distributed Taka 79.92-lakh cash assistance in two phases among 999 flood-hit families of seven unions under Sadar, Hatibandha and Patgram upazilas in Lalmonirhat district.

The cash assistance of Taka 8,000 was distributed among each of the beneficiaries in two-phases through mobile banking services at separate ceremonies held at the premises of union parisahd on October 24 and November 12, a press release said today.

“Each of the beneficiary families will get more Taka 4,000 in the third phase by first week of next month,” said WFP Representative Mamtaz Begum while addressing an orientation meeting with the beneficiaries held at Barobari union parishad under Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat on Sunday.

The assistance is being distributed under the “WFP Assisted Emergency Food Security Cash Assistance for the Most Vulnerable Flood Affected Households under DFAT Funding’ through RDRS Bangladesh to ensure food security of the beneficiaries.

“A total of Taka one crore 19-lakh and 88-thousand will be distributed with Taka 12,000 among each of the beneficiaries under the programme,” Mamtaz Begum added.

The orientation meeting was arranged on ‘Mobile Bank Cash Transfer’ for transferring the amount using mobile banking services ensuring complete transparency in the process.

Lalmonirhat District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Sujauddowla and Barobari union Charmin Yasin Mollah attended the meeting moderated by Programme Manager (Field Coordination) of RDRS Bangladesh Maidul Islam, the release added.
