Macedonia’s forex earnings from tourism up 26.5 pct in Q1

SKOPJE, Aug. 18 (BSS/Xinhua) — Tourism in Macedonia registered a year-on-
year increase of 26.5 percent in foreign exchange earnings in the first
quarter of 2018, latest official data revealed.

According to Ljupco Janevski, Director of Tourism Promotion Agency, it is
expected that the foreign exchange earnings will be around 24 billion
Macedonian Denars (445 million U.S. dollars) and about 1.2 million tourists
will visit Macedonia in 2018.

Janevski said there is an interest to inaugurate direct Bucharest-Ohrid
flights and to provide five-day or ten-day travel visas for Chinese tourists
for whom the region is a popular destination.

Moreover, Janevski said that the agency has prepared a Macedonian Tourists
passport brochure and a mobile app that contains information about the
tourist potentials in Macedonia.
