53 held, probe begins over Rangpur clash

RANGPUR, Nov 11, 2017 (BSS) – Fifty three persons were arrested last night in connection with the clash at Thakurtari village located on the juncture of Sadar, Gangachara and Taraganj upazilas in the district, police officials said today.

The three-member probe committee formed last night by the district administration has started investigation into the incident.

Additional District Magistrate Abu Rafa Md Rafikul Islam heads the probe committee with Additional Police Super (Circle-A) Saifur Rahman and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ziaur Rahman as members.

Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed today said the district administration already distributed dry foods, including ‘flattened rice’, ‘puffed rice’ and molasses among members of the affected families.

“A temporary police camp has been set up in the affected village to keep law and order situation under control,” he said.

The district administration has also extended necessary assistance to the affected families, he added.

“We will distribute corrugated iron sheets and cash money among the affected people today so they can reconstruct their houses,” Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Wahiduzzaman said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) ABM Zakir Hossain said two cases were filed with Kotwali and Gangachara police stations in these connections.

One youth was killed and 40 others, including policemen, were injured in the clash on Friday over an alleged face book post.
