DHAKA, Nov 8, 2017 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said BNP’s getting permission to hold rally has no relation with democracy as Awami League does not give permission rather law enforcing agencies do that.

“We cannot imagine how BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir finds relation between getting permission of rally and democracy,” he told newsmen after a cultural function on the last day of seven-day programme of Awami League (AL) at National Museum auditorium here.

Awami League organized the function as part of the seven-day programme as the UNESCO has recognized the historic 7th March Speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of the world’s documentary heritage.

Referring to different attacks on Awami League programmes during the BNP-Jamaat alliance government tenure, including the August 21 grenade attack, Quader, also minister for road transport and bridges, said his party did not get permission to hold rallies in many times.

“Even whenever we got permission, police personnel spoiled our programmes at that time,” he added.

About BNP’s allegation that the party was not allowed to place wreath at the Ziaur Rahman’s grave on November 7, Quader said no leader and worker of BNP went to place wreath near the grave on that day, rather BNP spread falsehood in this regard.

The minister said home ministry requested BNP to observe the programme in a shortened manner due to the security reason of CPA’s conference.
