5 JMB men taken on 6-day remand in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 08, 2018 (BSS) – Five alleged top operatives of outlawed Jama’atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) were taken on more six days remand for the third time today by Gangachara Thana police for interrogation, police said.

Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of Bogra Police in association with local police arrested four JMB men from Meena Bazar in Gangachara upazila here and seized one AK-22 rifle, 15 bullets and two pistols from them on July 29.

The arrestees are Azharul Islam alias Wanur, 32, of village Kuribiswa Dolapara, Akramuzzaman alias Mukul, 26, Faruk alias Sazu, 22, and Abdul Hakim alias Milon, 34, of village Char Bagdohra under Gangachara upazila of Rangpur.

“Azharul is JMB’s Chief of Dawa Wing of Rangpur district, Akramuzzaman is Chief of Dawa Wing of Gangachara upazila and Faruk and Abdul Hakim are members of Military Wing of Rangpur district,” said Mashiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangachara Model Thana.

Later, SI Feroz of Bogra DB police filed a case against the JMB men under the Anti-terrorism Act and handed them over to Gangachara Thana police on July 30.

Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Sub-inspector Abdul Matin of Gangachara Model Thana produced the arrested JMB operatives before the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Arifur Rahman with a prayer for a 10-day remand on July 31.

After hearing, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate granted seven days police remand for the first time on the day.

Later on expiry of the remand period, the IO again produced the arrested JMB men before the same court and the court granted a two-day more police remand on August 6 last.

The IO arrested another JMB operative Monayem Hossain, 25, of village Char Bagdohra under Gangachara upazila as per information given by other four arrested JMB operatives during interrogation.

After on expiry of the second time granted remand, the IO produced the arrested five JMB men before the same court today with a 10-day remand prayer when the court granted more six days police remand for interrogation, the OC said.
