DHAKA, Nov 6, 2017 (BSS)- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today gave financial assistance to the families of slain Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Shaheed (martyred) Kazi Delwar Hossain and noted sculptor late Syed Abdullah Khalid.

“The prime minister handed over a cheque for the financial assistance to Kazi Bazlur Rahman, the brother of Shaheed Delwar Hossain, at the Prime Minister’s Office here this noon,” said PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim.

She also handed over another cheque for the financial assistance to Begum Umme Kulsum, wife of late sculptor Abdullah Khalid.

On February 28 in 1984, Delwar Hossain along with another Chhatra League leader HM Ibrahim Selim were killed after a police truck ploughed into a student demonstration near Gulistan in the capital.

The students were protesting against a decision of the autocratic Ershad regime to hold upazila elections.

Syed Abdullah Khalid, who is famous for his Liberation War-based sculpture Aparajeyo Bangla on Dhaka University campus, passed away on May 20 last at the age of 75.
