7 Jamaat men held in Nilphamari from secret meeting

RANGPUR, Aug 3, 2018 (BDSS) – Seven leaders and activists of Jamaat-E-Islami Bangladesh were arrested today from a secret meeting at village Chhararpar under Sadar upazila in Nilphamari while they were planning to conduct subversive activities.

“Acting on secret information, a special police team raided the village and arrested the Jamaat men from the secret meeting in a local mosque there at 10 am,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nilphamari Sadar Thana Babul Akhter told BSS tonight.

The arrested persons are Nilphamari Sadar Upazila Jamaat Ameer Abu Hanif Shah, 48, Etakhola Union Jamaat Ameer Khabir Uddin, 50, Rokon of the same union Abdul Sabur, 50, Jamaat activists Mahbubur Rahman, 42, Abdus Sattar, 30, Ekramul Haque, 50, and Wahidul Islam, 46, of different villages under Nilphamari Sadar upazila.

“During interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they were planning to conduct subversive activities and sabotage,” the OC said, adding that a number of criminal cases related to conducting subversive activities were pending against most of them.

A case was filed in this connection against the arrested persons with Nilphamari Sadar Thana police, he added.
