President urges journos to prevent misuse of technology
DHAKA, Aug 1, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today urged journalists to play a responsible role in preventing the misuse of technologies in their respective works.
“Technology is our daily life companion . . . You (journalists) must ensure proper use of technologies in your works and come forward to prevent its misuses,” he said while the executive committee of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) called on him at Bangabhaban this evening.
After the meeting, his press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed the newsmen.
The President said the media people should increase their responsibilities as the mass media is expanding gradually in Bangladesh, Abedin said.
DRU president Saiful Islam led the delegation of the 21-member executive committee of the journalists’ body.
President Hamid was apprised by the DRU delegation of the overall activities of the organisation. The President was also presented a crest of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on the occasion.
The delegation sought cooperation of the President in different activities of the DRU.
Abdul Hamid lauded various activities of the DRU and urged the journalists to take necessary steps to increase the professional quality and efficiency.
DRU general secretary Syed Sukkur Ali Shuvo, vice-president Gelman Shafi, treasurer Manik Munatisir and organizing secretary Nurul Islam Hasib, among others, were present.
Earlier, a 10-member delegation of Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendra (BNSK) led by its president Nasimaun Ara Huq made a courtesy call on the President in the afternoon.
During the meeting, the President was informed about different problems and discriminations of women journalists in their respective workplace, the press secretary told BSS.
The women journalist leaders sought cooperation of the President in discharging their professional duties.
Referring to the role of journalists specially women journalists to ensure the women empowerment in Bangladesh, the President called upon the new generation to be inspired in more women empowerment.
He also asked the BNSK to take proper steps to increase the number of women journalists.
BNSK general secretary Parveen Sultana Jhuma, treasurer Akhter Jahan Malik and training secretary Farhana Milly, among others, were present.
