DHAKA, June 20, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said, a debt-ridden nation 12 years ago, Bangladesh has now become a lending country by making unprecedented development.

“The world becomes stunned witnessing the outstanding success of changed Bangladesh. It now becomes a loan-providing country,” he told an extended meeting of Dhaka district AL at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office here.

Quader said Bangladesh has given loan to debt-burdened Sudan and Sri Lanka even during the coronavirus crisis.

BNP is suffering from jealousy as the country is marching ahead under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said.

He said Bangladesh is now a bright country of huge potentials overcoming different conspiracies and adversities.

Bangladesh stands with head high in the world by making progress in every index of economy, he said, adding that the country’s economic growth will increase further when the ongoing mega projects will be completed.

The AL general secretary urged the party leaders and workers to take preparation for the next general election, saying the polls are not far away – only two years left.

He said everyone should work in unison shunning all differences to strengthen the hands of Sheikh Hasina.

AL President Sheikh Hasina stays in a very tough stance regarding organizational discipline, he said.

He said new committees should be formed at ward, union, upazila levels by holding council and district council should he held.

As the second wave of coronavirus is going on, indoor councils could be arranged if required, he mentioned.

Quader said ‘pocket committee’ cannot be formed by any means to strengthen position of any individual.

If workers face troubles in party, AL will face troubles, he said, adding that identified terrorists, corrupt and communal people and drug peddlers will have no room in any committee.

The minister said BNP had initiated the policy of looting in the country by introducing ‘Hawa Bhaban’ during their government term.

“During the BNP government, there was no trial of corruption. No leader or worker was brought to justice for wrongdoings” he said.

The AL general secretary said Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina showed zero tolerance against wrongdoing and corruption.

“Many of our party have been sentenced and imprisoned while Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating against some others. This could not be imagined during BNP government,” he said.

About BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s remarks that the government is trying to make Ziaur Rahman as a villain, Quader said actually Ziaur Rahman is a villain of history because of his activities.
Ziaur Rahman was the beneficiary of Bangabandhu’s assassination through deep-rooted conspiracy, he said, adding that the BNP founder had introduced ‘multi-party mockery’ in the name of multi-party democracy.

Quader urged the people to remain alert and maintain health guidelines properly as the coronavirus infection rate is on the rising trend again.

AL Presidium Member Abdul Mannan Khan, Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, Dhaka district AL General Secretary Md Mahbubur Rahman and Swechchhasebak League President Nirmal Ranjan Guha addressed the meeting, among others.

Dhaka district AL President Benzir Ahmed chaired it.
