Digital education gaining popularity in Khulna

KHULNA, June 20, 2021 (BSS) – The shift from in-classroom teaching to digital learning following the outbreak of Covid-19 is proving to be a boon to physically challenged SSC examinee Shaon Das as he has been continuing study amid shutdown.

“My parents were very anxious after the shutdown of educational institutions last year following the outbreak of corona virus. I was also frustrated and very much concerned about my future,” said Shaon, a 16 years old boy who is taking preparation SSC examinations from Khulna Zila School.

“But with the support of laptop and mobile phone provided by Khulna deputy commissioner last year, I am now able to continue my studies through various digital application”, he said with a jolly mood.

Talking to BSS, Shanti Ranjan Das, father of Shaon said “I am extremely happy that my son is able to continue his classes through digital education system.”
Shanti, a retired principal officer of Agrani Bank also a resident of city’s Bagmara area, said, “We became gleesome as my son is continuing his classes’ online using mobile phone and education related apps”.

Like Shaon Das, over five lakh primary, secondary, Madrasa, higher secondary, university, medical and other students from different institutions are beneficiaries of the newly introduced digital education.

When contacted, district education officer Ruhul Amin told BSS that over 1, 65,000 madrasa and school students from 545 schools are continuing their education virtually using ICT.

Over seven thousand teachers are providing online classes through zoom app. At least 80 percent teachers have been trained to give virtual lessons since last year because of the corona virus pandemic, he added.

District Primary education officer Mamun Aleem told BSS, “Over 800 classes have been uploaded in YouTube channel from where students can take their required online lesson”.

“Primary teachers are taking cluster-based Google meet classes after successfully completing their training on Google meet since the last month”. Besides, students can also take lesson from Sangsad television channel and FM band betar.

“Teachers are able to take classes of primary students regularly through internet. They are also following the annual syllabus of the National Primary Education Academy,” Aleem added.

Describing about virtual classes, additional deputy commissioner (ICT and Education) Md Sadekur Rahman said a total of 1, 63071 students are attending online classes in the district.

At least 6,399 teachers are giving online lessons by using different online platforms, he said, adding that students are enjoying the benefits of digitalization while the country’s educational institutions are now shutdown because of covid-19 pandemic.

While talking to BSS, Khulna deputy commissioner and district magistrate Md Helal Hossain said that 80 percent students from primary to university level are receiving education digitally through zoom app, Facebook and Youtube channels in Khulna.

“Digital Secondary Education, Sundarban Online School, Khulna Online School, Amar Ghar Amar School in Sangsad Television, A2i Kishore Batyaon online school are some of the Youtube channels and websites in Khulna which are being used to provide the lessons” he said.

He, however, said the government has given different ICT based equipment including laptop, mobile phone to under privileged and insolvent students so that they can also enjoy the benefit of digitalization like other students.
