8 more die, Covid-19 related deaths reach 452 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, June 19, 2021 (BSS) – More eight Coronavirus (Covid-19) patients, the highest number of casualties in a day since the outbreak of the pandemic, died on Friday raising the death toll to 452 in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the eight new deaths were reported from Rangpur, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts in the division where the infection rate continues rising hastily amid a declining recovery rate in recent weeks.

“Some 142 patients died from April 10 to June 18, the highest number of deaths in 10 weeks since the outbreak of the pandemic in the division,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

The district-wise break up of the 452 fatalities stands at 104 in Rangpur, 165 in Dinajpur, 57 in Thakurgaon, 38 in Nilphamari, 26 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 19 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.09 percent in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said the number of Covid-19 cases hastily rose to 21,631 as 113 more patients were reported after testing 388 samples at the infection rate of 29.12 percent on Friday in the division.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 33.60 percent on Thursday, 31.68 percent on Wednesday, 30.18 percent on Tuesday, 30.77 percent on Monday, 29.02 percent on Sunday and 27.50 percent on Saturday last in the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 21,631 patients stands at 5,378 in Rangpur, 882 in Panchagarh, 1,670 in Nilphamari, 1,273 in Lalmonirhat, 1,415 in Kurigram, 2,277 in Thakurgaon, 6,876 in Dinajpur and 1,860 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.

A total of 1,42,985 collected samples of all eight districts in the division were tested till Friday, and of them, 21,631 people were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.13 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients rose to 18,691 with the recovery of 36 more infected patients on Friday in the division where the average recovery rate dropped to 86.41 percent.

“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients was 97.55 percent three months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same dropped by 11.14 percent to 86.41 percent during the last more than three months,” Dr Islam said.

The 18,691 recovered patients include 4,865 of Rangpur, 822 Panchagarh, 1,553 of Nilphamari, 1,081 of Lalmonirhat, 1,176 of Kurigram, 1,647 of Thakurgaon, 5,792 of Dinajpur and 1,755 of Gaibandha districts.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,943 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,88,007 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged everyone to strictly abide by the health directives for containing the rapidly rising Covid-19 infection rate.
