Rampant movement of people spreading COVID-19 in country: Maleque

MANIKGANJ, June 18, 2021 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said rampant movement of people is largely responsible for faster rise of COVID-19 in the country.

“Indian variant are found in Bangladesh…. we have already asked officials of relevant organizations to take all necessary measures to stop spreading of coronavirus,” he told a discussing at his residence at Garpara in Manikganj.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Manikganj sadar upazila Awami League President Israfil Hossain, General Secretary Afsar uddin Sarker, Baliati UP Chairman Ruhul Amin, Dhankora UP Chairman Abdur Rouf, Saturia UP Chairman Anwar Hossain Pintu and Tilli UP Chairman Morsalin Babu.

Referring to the devastating situation of COVID-19 in India, Malque said huge number of people in India are dying every day infecting new variant of the lethal virus.

Maleque said infection rate of coronavirus has been increasing sharply in different border districts and it may spread in other parts of the country including Dhaka city.

He urged the people of the country to follow health rules to protect themselves from the deadly disease.

“Discussion with Russia for purchasing vaccine has been made a good progress,” the minister said.

Maleque said Bangladesh has signed an agreement with Chine to buy Covid-19 vaccines. “The agreement was signed with China to purchase Covid-19 vaccines… we expecting that China will take all necessary initiative to provide coronavirius vaccine very soon,” he added.
