1,351 landless families to get houses in Khulna

KHULNA, June 18, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 1,351 landless and homeless families of the district will get second phase houses on Sunday, highest of the division, as a gift from the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of ‘Mujib Barsho’.

The government will provide 53,340 more houses to the landless and homeless families as part of its campaign to bring all such families under the housing scheme during the ‘Mujib Borsho’(Year) across the country.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the distribution of these houses virtually on 20 June under the second phase of the Ashrayan-2 project.

Khulna deputy commissioner and district magistrate Mohammad Helal Hossain today disclosed it at a press briefing held at the deputy commissioner’s (DC) conference room in the city.

The construction work of the houses has been completed in all upazilas of the district. After completion of agreement and mutation, two hundred acres of land with newly constructed homes are ready to be transferred to the beneficiaries, the briefing said.

It was also conveyed in the briefing that the landless rehabilitation activities were done with the active monitoring and supervision of Khulna district administration and zero tolerance policy against corruption was taken during the selection of beneficiaries.

Besides, additional deputy commissioners were assigned to check and maintain the quality of the construction works.

Among the beneficiaries, 500 families are from Dumuria, 215 from Rupsha, 300 from Paikgacha, 200 from Dacope, 40 from Terokhada, 30 from Batiaghata, 30 from Koyra, 30 from Dighalia and lastly 6 families are from Fultala upazila of the district.

Previously, the Prime minister handed over 69,904 houses to the homeless and landless families on January 23 under the first phase of the project on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Among them 922 families in Khulna district received the home.

Besides, 100,000 more houses will be given by December next as part of the government’s move to rehabilitate the country’s homeless people, he added.

Mahbub Alam Sohagh, among others, addressed the press briefing.
