9 more die of Covid-19, 818 test positive afresh in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 18, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 818 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division on Thursday, raising the number of infections to 45,889.

With 9 more fatalities from the disease were reported afresh on the day, the death toll reached 707, including 338 in Bogura and 118 in Rajshahi with 71 in its city, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

The new daily infection figure shows a significant climbing trend compared to the previous day’s figure of 645, said the health department sources.

Among the infected people, 34,716 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 169 new recoveries found on Thursday. A total of 4,607 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 10,252 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 7,924 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 382 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 115 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 359 were detected in Rajshahi, including 168 in its city, followed by 91 in Joypurhat, 76 in Pabna, 75 in Chapainawabganj, 65 in Natore, 61 in Bogura, 58 in Naogaon and 33 in Sirajganj and districts.

With the new detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 13,657 in Rajshahi, including 11,074 in its city, 3,429 in Chapainawabganj, 3,287 in Naogaon, 2,577 in Natore, 2,677 in Joypurhat, 12,757 in Bogura, 3,978 in Sirajganj and 3,527 in Pabna.

A total of 78,232 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 73,200 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,10,912 people received second doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the city and eight districts of Rajshahi division since the nationwide second dose vaccination began on April 8 last.

Of them, 10 people including 6 females took the second jabs in Bogura district of the division on Tuesday last, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder told BSS.
