Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, June 14, 2021 (BSS) – Stocks today witnessed downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 22.44 points or 0.37 per cent to settle at 6,013.62. Two other indices also closed lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 19.59 points to finish at 2,172.98 and the DSE Shariah Index fell 8.84 points to close at 1,284.59.

The daily trade turnover on the DSE also plunged to Taka 17,401.67 million which was Taka 20,690.76 million at the previous session of the week.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 372 issues traded, 258 closed lower, 103 higher and 11 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Beximco continued to dominate the turnover chart, followed by NRBC Bank, Pioneer Insurance, LRBDL and Fortune.

Index Agro was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.95 per cent while KBPPWBIL was the worst loser, losing 7.62 per cent following its price adjustment after the record date.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended lower with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—slumping 63.22 points to close at 17,465.16 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 38.29 points to close at 10,516.57.

Of the issues traded, 198 declined, 90 advanced and 19 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 3.16 crore shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of more than Taka 79.92 crore.
