First death anniversary of Mohammed Nasim observed

DHAKA, June 13, 2020 (BSS) – The first death anniversary of veteran Awami League leader and former minister Mohammed Nasim was observed today amid different programmes.

Marking the death anniversary, discussions, milad and doa mahfil were arranged at different districts and upazilas including capital Dhaka, Sirajganj, Pabna while ‘Tobarok’ and wheelchairs were also distributed among poor people.

His family arranged a milad and doa mahfil at Banani graveyard at 11am. Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Mohammed Nasim’s youngest son Tanmoy Mansur were present, among others, on the occasion.

Awami Swechchhasebak League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and different other social organizations placed wreaths at Nasim’s grave at Banani graveyard in the morning.

The central 14-party alliance arranged a virtual memorial meeting.

AL Advisory Council Member and 14-party alliance spokesperson and coordinator Amir Hossain Amu chaired the meeting while AL Advisory Council Members Tofail Ahmed and Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haq Inu, AL Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, central leader Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, Jatiya Party (JP) General Secretary Sheikh Shahidul Islam and Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua addressed it, among others.

AL Liberation War Affairs Secretary Advocate Mrinal Kantian Das moderated it.

The first death anniversary of the seasoned politician and valiant freedom fighter Mohammad Nasim was observed at his birthplace in Sirajganj with paying glowing tributes to him.

Mohammad Nasim Foundation arranged a memorial meeting at his constituency Kazipur Upazila Parishad ground in Sirajganj. In the memorial meeting, Nasim’s son Engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy, MP, sought prayers for his father from all.

AL flag was kept half mast and black flag was hoisted at different party offices at his constituency Kazipur and Sirajganj in the morning.

Later, rich tributes were paid to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Four National Leaders and Mohammad Nasim by placing wreaths at their portraits.

Sirajganj district AL arranged a memorial meeting and doa mahfil at Shaheed M Mansur Ali auditorium in the district town in the afternoon.

AL Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak addressed it as the chief guest while AL Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, lawmakers Habibe Millat Munna and Professor Dr Abdul Aziz and Swechchhasebak League Publication Secretary KM Manwarul Islam Bipul addressed it, among others.

District AL Acting President Advocate KM Hossain Ali Hasan chaired the meeting.

Kazipur Upazila AL organized another memorial meeting with Sirajganj district AL Vice-President Abu Yusuf Surjo in the chair.

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hassan, Nasim’s son Sirajganj-1 seat lawmaker Tanvir Shakil Joy, Prof Dr Habibe Millat Munna, MP, District AL Acting President Advocate KM Hossain Ali Hasan and Acting General Secretary Abdus Samad Talukder addressed it, among others.

Kazipur Upazila AL General Secretary Khalilur Rahman Siraji moderated it.

Pabna district AL arranged memorial meeting, milad and doa mahfil marking Nasim’s death anniversary.

District AL Acting President Rezaur Rahim Lal chaired the meeting.

On June 13 in 2020, Mohammed Nasim, former AL Presidium Member and former minister, passed away while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital at Shyamoli here at the age of 72.

Nasim was born on April 2, 1948, in Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj district. His father, Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali, was one of the organisers of the Liberation War of Bangladesh and a close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Mansur Ali served as the minister of finance, industry and commerce in the government of Bangladesh formed at Amrakanon of Baidyanathtala in Meherpur during the War of Liberation in 1971, as well as in the cabinet of the post-independence Bangabandhu’s government.

Nasim graduated in political science from Jagannath College.

He was a Bangladesh Awami League politician who served as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare during 2014–2019 tenure.

Earlier, in the tenure of the 1996 AL government, he had also successfully served as the Minister for Home Affairs, Housing and Public Works and Posts and Telecommunications.

He was a six-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Sirajganj-1 constituency.

He was an AL presidium member and the spokesperson of the 14-party alliance.

As an elected MP of the current parliament, he was the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Food Ministry.

He set up several educational institutions in different areas, including in Dhaka and Sirajganj.
