Two children drown in Rangpur
RANGPUR, June 13, 2021 (BSS) – Two children drowned in the river Ghaghot in village Gangahari under Hajirhat police station in the metropolis this afternoon.
“The victims were identified as Nazmun Nahar Lithun, 9, daughter of late Abdul Latif of village Gangahari and Abdullah, 10, of Gangachara upazila in Rangpur,” Inspector (Investigation) of Hajirhat police station Rajesh Kumar Chakraborty said.
Abdullah came to visit his relatives’ house in Gangahari village. The victims are maternal cousins.
Lithun and Abdullah were playing with a ball next to the house of Lithun on the Ghaghot river bank at around 2 pm.
Suddenly, their play ball fell into the river Ghaghot and they went down into the river to look for the ball.
The locals tried to rescue the children when they drowned.
After rescuing the children from the river, local people rushed them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared both of them dead.
“The bodies of the children were handed over to their relatives after completing legal proceedings,” Inspector Chakraborty added.
