Prime Bank go top of DPL after Abahani’s defeat

DHAKA, June 11, 2021 (BSS)- Prime Bank Cricket went atop of Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after Abahani Limited conceded a defeat to their archrivals Mohammedan Sporting Club.

In the day’s other matches at different venues across the city, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity, Shinepukur Cricket Club, Gazi Group Cricketers also won their respective matches.

PRIME BANK VS LEGENDS OF RUPGANJ

A day after stunning country’s powerhouse Mohammedan, Legends of Rupganj hit the lowest ebb today, conceding a gigantic 101-run defeat to Prime Bank Cricket Club at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Off spinner Nahidul Islam scripted the big victory, claiming 3-15 in four overs as Rupganj was bowled out for just 68 in 18 overs after Prime Bank posted a respectable 169-5.

Nahidul was ably supported by pacer Rubel Hossain and fellow off spinner Nayeem Hasan who both scalped two wickets to derail Rupganj further. Rupganj yesterday crushed Mohammedan by nine wickets, showing am impeccable batting and bowling performance.

However, today only three of their batsmen could reach double digit mark with Jafar Ali making the highest 16.

Their bowlers also failed to make impact. Prime Bank rode on the half-century from Rony Talukdar and captain Anamul Haque Bijoy.

Rony hammered 53 off 31 with five fours and three sixes after opening the innings. Anamul was not out after playing 58 off 46, clobbering five fours and three sixes.

Rony and Anamul shared 67-run for the second wicket stand to pave the platform of big total.

SHEIKH JAMAL VS PRIME DOLESHWAR

Ziaur Rahman struck a whirlwind 33 ball-53 as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club recovered from a shaky start to secure a three-wicket win over Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club at BKSP-4 ground.

Doleshwar conceded their first defeat in the season yesterday, losing their game to Prime Bank by three runs and now failed to make impact for the consecutive second match.

Doleshwar put up a decent 166-5 thanks to Imran Uzzaman and Shamim Patwari’s rapid knock but Ziaur trumped them to sail Jamal home in the last ball of the match.

Sheikh Jamal Club were reduced to 72-5, which left them in tricky position but Ziaur came up as rescuer. Accompanied by Tanbir Hyder, he first shared 83 runs for the sixth wicket stand to take the side on the verge of the victory.

He, though, was dismissed after hitting one four and five sixes in his 53 off 33, Hyder helped the side seal the victory, being not out on 45.

Earlier opener Imran Uzzaman struck a 46 ball-65, with four fours and as many sixes while Shamim Patwari hammered 49 not out on just 19 with two fours and five sixes as Doleshwar looked set to hit back in winning way. But Ziaur’s onslaught left them in disarray state.

Doleshwar are in third spot now with nine points from seven matches while Sheikh Jamal put them in fourth position with eight points from same number of matches.

SHINEPUKUR VS OLD DOHS

Shinepukur Cricket Club sealed their only second victory in the league, beating Old DOHS by seven wickets at BKSP-3 ground.

Opener Tanzid Hasan was key in the victory, hitting a 59 ball-79 not out with seven fours and three sixes as Shinepukur overhauled DOHS’s 119-6, with 120-3 in 19.1 overs. Captain Towhid Hridoy made 28 off 32 to complement him.

Sumon Khan and Mrittuonjoy Chowdhury scalped two wickets apiece for Shinepukur to restrict DOHS in paltry total. Mohammad Rakib was highest scorer for DOHS with an unbeaten 56 runs.

DOHS are in ninth position with five points from seven matches while Shinepukure are in 11th spot with four points from same number of matches.

KHELAGHAR VS PARTEX

Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity registered their fourth victory, securing a 15-run win over Partex Sporting Club by DLS system at BKSP-4 ground.

Allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz snapped up 2-15 in four overs before making 12 not out with batting in crucial time to play a key role in the victory.

Electing to bat first, Partex were restricted to 106-8 after failing to deal with Khelaghar bowlers. Apart from Miraz’s two-wicket haul, Irfan Hossain took 3-23 while Tipu Sultan picked up 2-18.

Khelaghar were 50-2 in seven overs before rain put an end to the game. As per DLS method, Khelaghar was ahead of 15 runs that time.

This was Partex’s seventh straight defeat and as usually they remained at the bottom of the table. The win however move Khelaghar up for seventh spot with eight points from seven matches.

GAZI GROUP VS BROTHERS

Mahedi Hasan came up with superb allround show as Gazi Group Cricketers sealed a 15-run victory over Brothers Union by DLS system at the BKSP-3 ground.

Mahedi’s whirlwind 47 off 21, that studded with six fours and three sixes helped Gazi Group post a respectable 173-6. Yasir Ali complemented him, scoring 47 also while Ariful Haque was not out on 35.

Brothers Union reached 85-5 in 11.2 overs before the rain forced the postponement of the game. Through DLS system, Gazi was declared winner for 15 runs.

After playing a good knock with willow, Mahedi scalped one wicket with his off spin too. But the wrecker-in-chief was left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed who finished with 3-16 to keep Gazi always ahead in DLS method.

Gazi Group are in sixth position in the point table with eight points from Brothers are in eighth spot with seven points.
