Speakers for ensuring nutritious food for students

DHAKA, June 11, 2021 (BSS) – Speakers have stressed taking necessary steps to ensure the availability of food for the students as they have little access to nutritious food while staying at school or in their surroundings.

Students want to consume nutritious food, but they are forced to use non-nutritious food because of non-availability of nutritious food at school hours or later, the speakers said while addressing a national meeting on nutrition in a city hotel on Thursday.

National Nutrition Service (NNS), supported by Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), a Switzerland-based institution, organised the meeting titled ‘National event on Bhalo Khabo, Bhalo Thakbo (Eat well, Live well)’, a GAIN press release said.

Dr SM Mustafizur Rahman, Line Director of NNS; Ananya Raihan, Chief Executive of Infolady Social Enterprise Limited (i’Social); Dr Rudaba Khondker, Country Director of GAIN Bangladesh; Shahid Uddin Akbor, Chief Executive of Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development(BIID); writer Anisul Hoque and actress Jaya Ahsan; among others, spoke at the meeting.

Dr Mustafizur Rahman stressed the intake of nutritious food for strengthening the disease preventive capacity of human body.

Dr Rudaba Khondker, in her address, termed the nutritious food as a fundamental right, saying that the issue of nutritious food has gained more momentum during the pandemic.

The speakers underscored the need for taking coordinated steps to ensure the availability of nutritious food at educational institutions across the country for meeting the nutritional needs of students.
