23 brokers at DMCH jailed for harassing patients
DHAKA, June 10, 2021 (BSS) – A mobile court led by executive magistrate Palash Kumar Bosu sentenced 24 brokers to different terms for harassing and deceiving patients at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) here today.
“During the drive assisted by DMCH authority and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-3 the court sentenced 23 people (brokers) to the highest one month’s imprisonment,” the court officials told BSS.
Magistrate Polash Kumar told BSS that they nabbed a total of 24 brokers during the drive from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and “one got release while 23 others jailed for one month on charge of harassing and deceiving patients and their attendants.”
He said that the brokers used to allure the patients coming to DMCH promising them to provide better treatment at a lower cost.
On the contrary, they (patients) are being taken to different substandard hospitals or medical centers, the magistrate added.’
