BNP avoids polls as it doesn’t believe in democracy: Quader

DHAKA, June 6, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP stayed away from polls as it doesn’t believe in democracy.

“Now BNP has forgotten to speak the truth while going to criticize the government,” he told a discussion marking the founding anniversary of Awami Hawkers League at Bangabandhu Avenue here.

Quader joined it virtually from his official residence.

Highlighting the development works and achievements of the government, he said Bangladesh is now in the row of developing nations under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The country’s economic capability has increased manifold side by side with the increase of budget implementation capacity, he said.

Quader said during BNP’s tenure, finance minister of the government had to beg to foreign donor groups or ‘Paris Consortium’ meetings every year before formulating annual budget.

At that period, the BNP government used to formulate national budget depending on donor’s compassion, he added.

The minister said now under the dynamic and futuristic leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has witnessed a huge economic turnaround.

He said now budget is being formulated on the basis of own resources, not on foreign dependency.

BNP is denying the country and the nation’s achievement while going to make blind criticism of the government, he said, adding that BNP is denying socio-economic success of the fighting people of the country.
