Govt plans to distribute germplasms for native small fish species conservation

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 3, 2021 (BSS) – Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today said the government has planned to distribute germplasms for the conservation of native small fish species across the country.

“…there is a plan to distribute nationwide germplasms for the conservation of local small fish species,” he said while placing the national budget for fiscal 2021-22 in the House.

The finance minister said a project titled, ‘The Community-Based Climate Resilient Aquaculture Development Project in Bangladesh’ is being implemented to address the negative impact of climate change on the country’s fisheries sector.

He said the ‘Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management Project’ is also in the process of approval.

Noting that the Halda River has been declared as Bangabandhu Fisheries Heritage, Kamal said farmers are being supplied with the chickens of ‘shubra’ variety which can survive in local environment at a low cost.

He said technical services will be provided at the farm level through mobile fish clinics.
