JS adopts obituary reference

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 2,2021 (BSS) – The 11th Jatiya Sangsad on the first day of its 13th budget session on Wednesday unanimously adopted obituary reference on a number of distinguished personalities including sitting ruling party lawmakers.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the obituary references separately with brief resumes on those who died since prorogation of the twelveth session of the parliament.

The Speaker while moving the references said the House expresses its deep shock at the deaths of twelve lawmakers including former law minister Abdul Matin Khosru of Cumilla-5,former Minister Mahbubur Rahman and lawmaker Aslamul Haq of Dhaka-14.

The other former lawmakers includes Sarah Begum Kabari, Meraj Uddin Molla, Gazi MM Amjad Hossen Milon, Mohammad Yunus, Ziaur Rahman Khan, Abdul Bari Sarder, Dilder Hossen Selim, Abdur Rauf Khan, Farida Rahman and former member of the constituent assembly Khondoker Abdul Maleque Shahidullah and Abul Hashem.

The house also condoled the death ofBangla Academy Director General Habibullah Siraji, Bangla Academy Chairman Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan, noted social worker Fawzia Maleque, mother of Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque, language veteran Abul Hossen, Child Specialist Professor Dr Shahida Akhter, wife of Professor Dr Abul Barakat, noted journalist Hasan Shahriar, noted singer Mita Haq, Ekhusey Padak recipient and noted folk singer Indra Mohon Rajbangshi, eminent stage and television performer and Ekhusey Padak winner valiant freedom fighter SM Mohsin, Director General of the Department of Environment Dr AKM Rafique Ahammad, former Principal Information Officer (PIO) Harun-Ur-Rashid, National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Reference Center’s Director Professor Dr Abul Khayer Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, Film actor Wasim and Rangpur Press Club President Abdur Rashid Babu.

Besides, the parliament also expressed condolence over the death of Office Assistant of the Parliament Secretariat Juboraj Khan.

Dr Shirin Sharmin also expressed deep shock at huge fatalities including doctors, nurses, members of law enforcing agencies, political leaders, media workers, businessmen, elite personalies and employees of different public and private organizations due to the onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to this, the Speaker expressed deep shock at the death of tragic launch accident on Shitalakkya river in Narayanganj and Speed boat accident at Banglabazar-Shimulia river route at Shibchar.

Deep shock was also expressed for heinous attack on the Palestinian citizens including huge women and children in Gaza by the Israeli occupation forces, causalities for recent cyclonic storm Yaas in India and Bangladesh and death due to accident in different places in home and abroad.

Earlier, discussion was also held in the parliament on the life and works on two sitting lawmakers –former law minister Abdul Matin Khosru and Aslamul Huq.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader, Opposition Chief Whip Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Sadeque Khan MP, AKM Rahmatullah MP, Advocate Quamrul Islam MP, M Mujibul Haque MP, Ali Ashraf MP, Jatiya Party Lawmakers Kazi Feroz Rashid MP, Anisul Islam Mahmud MP, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President and former Minister Hasanul Huq Inu and BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid also took part in the discussion.

They conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for the lasting peace of his departed soul.

The lawmakers also observed a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

Later, a munajat was offered by State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Huq seeking eternal peace of the departed souls.

As a mark of respect to the death of two sitting members Abdul Matin Khosru and Aslamul Haque, after adoption of the obit reference and munajat, the speaker adjourned the sitting of the house at 6:49pm to resume it again on June 3 at 3pm.
