BHF for starting premier hockey league soon

DHAKA, June 2, 2021 (BSS)- The Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) acting general secretary Mohammad Yousuf said the federation is working with the clubs to roll the premier hockey league soon.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has donated us Taka one crore to run the league … we are now working with the clubs and also on the surrounding issues ..we hope we’ll be able to fix the date of players transfer window by end of July,” said Yousuf to the pressmen after the hockey’s execute committee’s meeting held today at Falcon Hall of Air Force.

The BHF president and Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, presided over the meeting. It was his last executive meeting as BHF president because he will go to retirement from the post of Air Chief Marshal from June 12.

Yusuf said the new president would take charge on June 12. Then at a convenient time, the new president would sit with the clubs to discuss with premier league issue.

Replying to a question Yousuf said the BHF could not take steps to start the premier league after 2018 because after the start of COVID-19 pandemic from last year, many clubs were closed for long time and few clubs are still under lock and key.

He said the federation is always ready and cordial to start the league but the surrounding atmosphere was not favorable, so it was not possible for the federation to start the league timely, he said.

Despite having a negative impact on the Premier League, which rolled six times in the last twelve years, the hockey players have been demanding to start the league as soon as possible.

The BHF has been working seriously to roll the Premier League as soon as possible and the hockey lovers are also expecting that the hockey’s familiar form will return soon.
