Asian Zonal Chess Championship begins tomorrow

DHAKA, May 31, 2021 (BSS)- The Asian Zonal Chess Championship (Hybrid Chess), qualifying event for the FIDE World Cup Chess, begins from tomorrow (Tuesday) at crown hall of Hotel Asia in the city’s Topkhana road at 3 pm.

Dr. Benazir Ahmed, BPM (Bar), president of Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) and Inspector General of Bangladesh Police, is virtually expected to inaugurate the championship as the chief guest.

Tarafder Mohammad Ruhul Amin, managing director of Saif Powertech Limited and vice president of BCF, will virtually present as the special guest in the inauguration ceremony.

A total of twenty one players from Bangladesh including Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib, International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman, International Master Mohammad Minhazuddin, International Master Abu Sufian Shakil and players from Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are going to participate in the championship, sponsored by SAIF POWERTEC Limited.

The championship will be held in nine-round Swiss-League system and champion of the event will have the opportunity to participate in the FIDE World Cup Chess which will begin from July 10 in Sochi, Russia.

The winners’ of the competition will be awarded a cash prize of U$$ three thousand.
