DHAKA, May 30, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said his party does not do politics of vengeance rather BNP’s political history is of vengeance and intolerance.
“The government is considering Begum Khaleda Zia’s health matter on humanitarian and liberal grounds but BNP is doing politics over the issue,” he told a regular press briefing at his official residence here this afternoon.
Quader said vengeance and intolerance remains in BNP’s ‘bone marrow’ and this is their political history.
He said Bangladesh stands head high under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina following independent and balanced foreign policy.
“AL government didn’t bow down to anybody in national interest. Awami League has foreign friends, not lords. BNP doesn’t have foreign friends but lords,” he said.
The minister said Sheikh Hasina established the country in a dignified position in the global stage.
When BNP was in power, they used to run the country at the directives of their foreign lords, he said, adding that BNP had turned Bangladesh into a ‘servant state’, not AL.
About BNP’s leaders’ remarks of establishing liberal democratic state, Quader questioned BNP would establish which democratic state keeping ties with communal evil forces and those who create religious divide.
He said democracy cannot be established in a single day, it needs long journey.
BNP creates obstacles in every step to the journey of democracy that is being taken ahead by the Sheikh Hasina’s government, he said.
The AL general secretary said the people expect BNP would play responsible role.
But they don’t do that or extend cooperation rather they are continuing their evil attempts directly or indirectly to halt the ongoing journey of democracy.
Quader said during BNP tenure, a list of 1.25 crore fake voter was prepared to hold the national polls and thus they created 1/11 in the country.
“BNP talked about democracy in daylight but enforced curfew in the night,” he said adding that this was instance of BNP’s democracy.
