Niaz fails to qualify in WC Chess

DHAKA, May 29, 2021 (BSS)- It was a disappointing day for Grandmaster Niaz Murshed as he finally failed to qualify in the World Cup Chess losing his ninth or last round game to top rated former world junior champion GM Madhsoodloo Parham of Iran in the Asian Continental Individual Chess Championship (Hybrid Chess) held today.

If GM Niaz able to win his last round match, then he will be able to qualify in the World Cup Chess.

In the ninth or last round games were held today, GM Niaz played with white pieces against Ragozin Defense of GM Parham. The game was equal up to 16 moves but GM Niaz was pressed with a wrong move in 17 moves and face of GM Parham’s attack, later GM Niaz lostafter 46 moves.

IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman won against GM Novendra Priasmoro of Indonesia. IM Fahad played with white pieces against Modern Defense of GM Novendra and won at 53rd moves. GM Enamul Hossain Razib split point with Batchuluun Tsegmed of Mongolia. GM Razib played with black pieces to choose the Queen’s India and drew after 47 moves.

IM Moahmmad Fahad Rahman finished 24th position with 5.5 points, GM Niaz Murshed became 25th and GM Enamul Hossain Razib became 27th with five points each, FM Subrota Biswas became 40th with 4.5 points and IM Abu Sufian Shakil became 56th with four points.

In last round games, FM Subrota beat Marticio Jeremy of Philippines while IM Shakil lost to IM Ali Muhammad Lutfi of Indonesia missed good position.

Uzbekistan’s Grandmaster Vakhidov Shamsiddin emerged champion and Singapore’s International Master Tin Jingyao finished runner-up with seven points each.

A total of 82 players from fifteen Asian and Australia participants including twenty Grandmasters, one Female Grandmaster, twenty International Masters and four Women International Masters took part in the meet.
