5 remanded for 3 days in Ashulia gang-rape case

DHAKA, May 29, 2021 (BSS) – Five of the six accused arrested in a case of gang-raping a young woman on a moving bus in Ashulia have been remanded for three days.

The accused in the case are Md Aryan (18), Saju (20), Sumon (24), Sohag (25), Saiful Islam (40) and Monowar (24).

The accused were produced in the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court today. The investigating officer of the case then requested to remand them for five days for proper investigation of the case.

Following the hearing, Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahjadi Tahmida remanded them for 3 days.

On the other hand, the judge recorded the confessional statement voluntarily given by accused Sumon and ordered him to be sent to jail.

Chief Judicial Court General Registration Officer (GRO) Inspector of Police Mesbah Uddin confirmed the matter.

According to the case statement, the victim boarded a minibus of New Grambangla Paribahan at around 8 pm on Friday. All the passengers except the victim were asked to get down before their stoppage came.

At one point, six people including the bus driver and his assistant locked the windows and door of the bus and raped the woman.

Local patrol police stopped the bus and rescued the victim. The police arrested the six and took them to the police station.

The victim filed a case against the six on Saturday morning. The victim was then sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for medical examination.
