Covid-19 cases hit 33,330 with 117 afresh in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 20, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 117 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division during the last 24 hours till Wednesday, climbing the number of infections to 33,330.

The daily new infection figure shows a slight declining trend compared to the previous day’s figure of 124, said the health department sources.

Among the infected patients, 30,476 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 138 new recoveries found during that time, the sources said.

A total of 3,745 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 8,150 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 6,991 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 92 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 132 others were released during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 520 including 308 in Bogura and 77 in Rajshahi including 49 in its city while three more fatalities reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 32 were detected in Rajshahi, including 30 in its city, followed by 25 in Sirajganj, 22 in Bogura, 15 in Naogaon, six in Chapainawabganj, four in Natore and two in Joypurhat districts.

With the new detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the Covid-19 cases now stands at 8,140 in Rajshahi including 6,550 in its city, 1,144 in Chapainawabganj, 2,116 in Naogaon, 1,616 in Natore, 1,630 in Joypurhat, 12,135 in Bogura, 3,585 in Sirajganj and 2,974 in Pabna.

A total of 71,832 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 70,508 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, a total of 3,93,584 people received the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines in the city and eight districts of Rajshahi division since the nationwide second dose vaccination began on April 8.

Of them, 4,612 people including 1,847 females took the second jab Wednesday, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder told BSS today.

He said 438 including 196 females received vaccines in Rajshahi city and 1,436 people including 547 females in Rajshahi district, 664 including 273 females in Chapainawabganj, 70 including 29 females in Natore and 444 people including 183 females in Naogaon have got the vaccines Wednesday.

Apart from this, a total of 231 persons including 95 females got vaccines in Pabna, 550 including 238 females in Sirajganj, 380 including 150 females in Bogra and 399 including 136 females in Joypurhat today received the vaccines on the day, he added.
