20 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 16, 2021 (BSS) – Twenty more people, including three Bangladeshi young students who returned from India, were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division.

“The 20 new cases were reported after diagnosing 114 samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories at the infection rate of 17.55 percent today,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Among the 20 new patients diagnosed today, three young students were reported positive after diagnosing 29 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

All of the three Bangaldeshi students returned from India through the Immigration Check Post at Burimari Land Port under Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district.

“The three infected students are Syed Mohammad Eyasin, 17, Joy Chandro Paul, 18, and Foysal Hossain, 16,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS.

“All of the three infected students are now in institutional quarantine at Patgram Upazila Health Complex in Lalmonirhat district,” he added.

On the other hand, 17 new patients were reported after diagnosing 85 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“All of the 17 newly infected patients are hailing from different areas of Dinajpur and one from Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS at 7:15 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,343 as 20 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 18,343 infected patients stands at 4,784 in Rangpur, 832 in Panchagarh, 1,552 in Nilphamari, 1,049 in Lalmonirhat, 1,180 in Kurigram, 1,651 in Thakurgaon, 5,567 in Dinajpur and 1,728 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
