35 lakh doses Russian vaccines imported to check cattle hoof disease

DHAKA, May 11, 2021 (BSS) – The Fisheries and Livestock Ministry has imported 35 lakh doses of high quality vaccines from Russia to control cattle hoof disease or Razor disease.

The vaccine has recently been imported under the Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) Disease Eradication and Hoof Disease Control Project being implemented by the Livestock Department under the Ministry, a press release said today.

A total of 9 lakh 67 thousand 500 doses, 10 lakh 67 thousand 500 doses, 6 lakh 70 thousand doses and 7 lakh 95 thousand doses of imported vaccines were distributed to Pabna, Sirajganj, Manikganj and Bhola districts respectively.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim said that it is very important to ensure the economic benefits of the farmers rearing livestock and control the disease in the export of the country’s livestock products to the world market.

As the country’s dairy sector may face losses due to this disease, the government is importing about 3 crore doses of vaccine at a cost of Taka 196 crore through PPR disease eradication and razor disease control project.

1 crore 37 lakh 14 thousand 286 doses of vaccine have already been ordered at a cost of Tk 90 crore, of which 35 lakh doses have recently arrived in the country from Russia in the first phase, he added.
