27 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 10, 2021 (BSS) – Twenty-seven more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate is again rising during the past couple of days.

Health officials said the 27 new cases were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories today at the daily infection rate of 14.36 percent in the division.

Earlier, the daily infection rate came down to 8.96 percent in the division on May 2 last for the first time below the 10 percent mark since March 24 last and varied between 7 and 9 percent for a few days last week.

“The daily infection rates again crossed the 10 percent mark on Saturday and rose to 14.36 percent today in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

Among the 27 new patients diagnosed today, 14 were reported positive after diagnosing only 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 14 new patients include 11 from Kurigram and one each from Gaibandha, Kurigram and Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 13 new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“All of the 13 new patients are hailing from different areas of Dinajpur district alone,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS at 5:30 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,242 as 27 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 18,242 patients stands at 4,760 in Rangpur, 832 in Panchagarh, 1,542 in Nilphamari, 1,048 in Lalmonirhat, 1,173 in Kurigram, 1,650 in Thakurgaon, 5,514 in Dinajpur and 1,723 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
