JS body recommends continued effort to get vaccine from USA, India
DHAKA, May 09, 2021 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today recommended the ministry to continue its effort to obtain the ‘AstraZeneca’ vaccine from the United States and India.
The committee also recommended the ministry to continue its efforts to ensure the supply of China’s Sinopharm vaccine, said a press release here.
The parliamentary watchdog made the recommendations at its 20th meeting today, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban under the chairmanship of Muhammad Faruk Khan.
The committee also recommended keeping the Bangladesh-India border closed due to the current alarming situation of Covid-19.
The meeting presented the latest status of receiving Covid-19 vaccine from different countries and mediums, evaluation report of the celebration of the golden jubilee of independence in the presence of the Head of State or Government and the work plan of the newly appointed Ambassadors of Iraq.
During the meeting, the committee recommended to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take steps to inspect the situation of Rohingyas in Bhasanchar by the last week of May.
The committee thanked the ministry for successfully concluding all diplomatic activities on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Independence of Bangladesh in the presence of the Heads of State/Government of Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and India.
At the meeting, the committee recommended the ministry to strengthen trade relations with Iraq and provide all kinds of assistance to the Bangladeshi human resources working in Iraq, added the release.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Nurul Islam Nahid, Md Abdul Majid Khan, Md Habibe Millat and Kazi Nabil Ahmed, members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Also, the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the newly appointed Ambassador of Iraq, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the concerned senior officials of the National Assembly Secretariat were present, among others.
