RANGPUR, May 9, 2021 (BSS) – The 12th death anniversary of internationally renowned nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr M A Wazed Miah was observed today in a befitting manner in the district.
Local administrations and different organisations chalked out limited scale programmes in observance of the death anniversary abiding by the health directives in the wake of the present global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic situation.
Rangpur district administration, Pirganj upazila administrations, Dr M A Wazed Miah Foundation, Pirganj upazila Awami League (AL), family of Dr Wazed, Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad (DWSS) and other organisations observed the death anniversary.
The programmes included placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr. Wazed in his ancestral village of Laldighee Fatehpur under Pirganj upazila, offering Fateha, Ziyarat and doa mahfil, discussions, distribution of foods and Iftar items to the poor and orphans.
The ICT Division at Dhaka organised a virtual discussion and doa mehfil in the afternoon with participation of State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak as the chief guest in observance of the 12th death anniversary of Dr M A Wazed Miah.
Senior Secretary of the ICT Division N M Ziaul Alam presided over the discussion also attended by high-ranking officials of the ICT Division and a2i programme.
Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Md Asib Ahsan, Police Super Biplob Kumar Sarker, Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Biroda Rani Roy, Vice-president of district Awami League (AL) AKM Chhayadat Hossain Bakul, Pirganj municipal Mayor and General Secretary of upazila AL Tazimul Islam Shamim participated in the virtual discussion from Rangpur and Pirganj end.
Addressing the discussion, Zunaid Ahmed Palak discussed the glorious life, works, ideology and contribution of Dr Wazed to the nation terming him as a successful scientist, politician and ideal head of a family and father of two genius children.
Earlier in the morning, the district and police administrations, Pirganj upazila administration, leaders of Pirganj upazila AL and family members placed wreaths at the grave of Dr. Wazed, offered Fateha and special munajats maintaining physical distance.
Chairman of Dr MA Wazed Foundation and Vice-president of district AL AKM Chhayadat Hossain Bakul, Pirganj municipality Mayor and General Secretary of Pirganj upazila AL Tazimul Islam Shamim, Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy placed wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed.
Leaders of Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad (DWSS) led by its General Secretary Saiful Islam Jahangir placed wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed at village Laldighee Fatehpur and offered Fateha there in the morning.
Later, DWSS arranged milad mehfils abiding by the health directives at Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque and other mosques in Rangpur city and offered special munajats seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Dr. Wazed and well-being of his family members.
The ICT Division with assistance of Pirganj upazila administration arranged a doa mahfil followed by distribution of Iftar items among orphans at Gopinathpur Mazidiya Aziton Nesa Shishu Sadan (Orphanage) in Pirganj upazila.
The district and Pirganj upazila administrations organised doa mahfils at important mosques in Rangpur city and Pirganj upazila and distributed Iftar items among distressed people with assistance of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The nuclear scientist with international repute was born on February 16, 1942 in a respectable Muslim family of village Laldighee Fatehpur in Pirganj upazila of the district.
He died on May 9, 2009.
He was laid to eternal rest with full state honour at their family graveyard in his paternal village Laldighee Fatehpur.
