13 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 8, 2021 (BSS) – Thirteen more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the 13 new cases were reported after diagnosing 130 samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories today at the daily infection rate of 10 percent in the division.

Earlier, the daily infection rates came down to 8.96 percent in the division on May 2 last for the first time below the 10 percent mark since March 24 last.

“The daily infection rate again reached the 10 percent mark today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

Among the 13 new patients diagnosed today, five were reported positive after diagnosing only 36 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The five new patients include one from Kurigram and four from Gaibandha districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, eight new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The eight new patients include five from Dinajpur and three from Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS at 6 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients reached 18,186 as 13 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of 18,186 patients stands at 4,735 in Rangpur, 830 in Panchagarh, 1,541 in Nilphamari, 1,047 in Lalmonirhat, 1,169 in Kurigram, 1,650 in Thakurgaon, 5,490 in Dinajpur and 1,724 in Gaibandha of the division.
