Works of Uttara-Tongi flyover and Tongi Bridge to start soon

DHAKA, Oct 19, 2017 (BSS) – Construction of nearly 4.50 kilometer-long flyover from Uttara House Building to Tongi Cherag Ali and a 10-lane Tongi Bridge will soon begin.

The construction will begin under Bus Rapid Transit Project and it would help reduce traffic congestion of the Dhaka city and its adjacent areas, an official release said here today.

To this end, an agreement was signed between Bridge division and Ziangsu Provincial Transportation Engineering Group Company Limited, a Chinese construction company, in presence of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at Setu Bhaban here today.

Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Kabir Ahmed and Chairman of Ziangsu Provincial Transportation Engineering Group Company Limited Zhang Xiao Yu signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

As per the agreement, nearly Taka 935 crore would be spent for building the elevated flyover and the Tongi Bridge construction, said the minister, adding that the 3.50 kilometers of the flyover would be a six-lane and the rest one-kilometer would be a two-lane.

The construction of the flyover and the bridge would be completed within next 30 months, the minister said.
