Govt. opts for technology to make economy grow amid pandemic: Palak

DHAKA, 26 April, 2021- State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak today lauded the role of the current government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, of using technology as a key tool in tackling the global epidemic of Covid-19 and keeping the country’s economic progress running.

“By using technology, online product delivery, education, health, commercial and judicial activities ran smoothly in the last 13 months. As a result of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s various effective steps specially in the ICT sector, the per capita income, even in this pandemic situation has risen from below 500 USD to 2,069 USD,” Palak said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the virtual inauguration of Walton’s ‘Stay Home offer’. The offer was introduced to encourage people to shop from home without going outside amid the Covid-19 situation.

The state minister said that, “At the second meeting of the Digital Bangladesh Task Force on August 6, 2015, considering the demand for digital devices in the country, the import duty on spare parts of 94 items was reduced to 1 percent on the directives of our Prime Minister… As a result, more than 8 mobile parts assembly and manufacturing companies have been set up in the country.”

Mentioning that the ‘Amar Gram, Amar Shohor’ program announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is being implemented so that a citizen can get all the modern facilities of the city while sitting in the village, Palak stressed on the joint efforts of all to build a self-reliant digital Bangladesh with their own products and innovations.

It was stated in the program that Walton is producing and exporting various electronic devices including laptops.
