60 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 23, 2021 (BSS) – Sixty more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a quickly rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said 60 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples of all eight districts in the division at the two COVID-19 laboratories today at the daily infection rate of 15.96 percent.

Among the 60 new patients diagnosed today, 28 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 28 new patients include 20 from Rangpur, four from Gaibandha, two from Kurigram and one each from Lalmonirhat and Dinajpur districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 32 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 32 new patients include 24 from Dinajpur, seven from Nilphamari and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients sharply reached 17,673 as 60 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of total 17,673 patients stands at 4,582 in Rangpur, 824 in Panchagarh, 1,512 in Nilphamari, 1,036 in Lalmonirhat, 1,122 in Kurigram, 1,622 in Thakurgaon, 5,293 in Dinajpur and 1,682 in Gaibandha of the division.
