35,000 more modern Digital Labs by 2025: Palak

DHAKA, April 22, 2021 (BSS)- State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak today said that 35,000 more modern Sheikh Russell Digital Labs will be set up in the country by 2025 to educate students in technology education.

“Our young generation needs to be made interested in modern science and technology, engineering and mathematics. This will build an employment-oriented and skills-based education system. Otherwise they will lag behind,” Palak said while addressing a virtual roundtable meeting jointly organized by A2I, Grameenphone and Plan International on the occasion of “International ICT Girls Day”, said a release.

“A total of 64 Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Centers are being set up across the country to create IT dependent employment for SSC and HSC pass students. Through this, our young generation will be directly and indirectly encouraged to become proficient in ICT education,” he said.

Saying that the Curriculum for Coding and Programming will be included in the national curriculum for primary schools from the next academic year, he called upon the government as well as all concerned to play a responsible role in mentoring, coaching and monitoring the trainees.

BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir, Plan International Bangladesh Representative Orral Murphy, BRAC Representative KM Morshed, BACCO President Waheed Sharif, Dhaka University Professor Lafifa Jamal, Grameenphone Human Resource Head Tanvir Hossain also spoke, among others, in the meeting.
