60 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 16, 2021 (BSS) – Sixty more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a promptly rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said 60 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples of all eight districts in Rangpur division at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 15.96 percent.

Among the 60 new patients diagnosed today, 30 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 30 new patients include 23 from Rangpur, five from Gaibandha and one from Kurigram and Dinajpur districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS.

On the other hand, 30 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 30 new patients include 18 from Dinajpur, nine from Nilphamari and three from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6:15 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients sharply reached 17,230 as 60 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 17,230 patients stands at 4,407 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,480 in Nilphamari, 1,017 in Lalmonirhat, 1,093 in Kurigram, 1,607 in Thakurgaon, 5,168 in Dinajpur and 1,628 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
