India cancels CBSE Class-10 exams, postpones CBSE Class-12 exams
NEW DELHI, April 14, 2021 (BSS) – In the wake of coronavirus crisis,
India today cancelled CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education)
Class-10 board exams and postponed Class-12 board exams, which were
scheduled for May-June.
The decision was taken today at a high-level meeting with Prime
Minister Narendra Modi in the chair, according to an official
announcement.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Principal
Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, School and Higher
Education Secretaries and other top officials attended the meeting.
“Looking to the present situation of the pandemic and school
closures, and also taking in account the safety and well-being of the
students, it is decided that the Board Exams for Class 10 are hereby
cancelled…and the Board Exams for Class 12 are hereby postponed,”
said an official statement.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal welcomed the decision to cancel
CBSE class 10 board exams and postpone class 12 exams in view of surge
in COVID-19 cases, saying it will provide a great relief to students
and their parents.
Meanwhile, more and more people are voicing their concerns about
CBSE exams during a raging pandemic and centres turning to be Covid
hotspots.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, Delhi CM Arvind
Kejriwal wrote to the central government requesting to cancel the
exams to prevent lakhs of students, invigilators, life from being
exposed to infection.
Around 21.5 lakh students were to take the Class 10 exams and some
14 lakh students are registered for Class 12, according to the CBSE.
According to Union Health Ministry data, Covid cases have been
spiraling across the country in the deadly second wave of infections
as India recorded 1,84,372 new coronavirus cases today in the highest
single-day rise so far, with 1,027 deaths.
