President mourns death of Rabindra Sangeet singer Mita Huq

DHAKA, April 11, 2021 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Ekushey Award-winning Rabindra Sangeet artist Mita Huq.

In a condolence message, the President said, “People will remember with reverence her relentless effort to reach Rabindra practice and Rabindra songs at the common people’s doorsteps in Bangladesh.”

The head of the state prayed for the eternal peace of late Mita Huq and conveyed the deepest sympathy to her bereaved family.

Noted singer Mita died at the age of 59.

She breathed her last at 6:20 am today while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital here, said a family source.

Mita had been suffering from kidney and heart deceases for long.

She tested positive for COVID-19 on March 31 and was in isolation at her residence.

Subsequently, she was admitted to the hospital on March 31 and discharged after 11 days.

She suffered a cardiac arrest and was admitted to the hospital yesterday.

Mita was listed as the highest grade artist of the Bangladesh Betar.
