Quader opens Cox’s Bazar Link Road-Unchiprang extended road

DHAKA, April 6, 2021 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister
Obaidul Quader today inaugurated an extended road from Cox’s Bazar
Link Road to Unchiprang.

Through videoconferencing from his official residence here, he
inaugurated the road, which was constructed under the Cox’s
Bazar-Teknaf Highway Improvement Project, financed by the Asian
Development Bank, a ministry press release said.

Speaking as the chief guest, Quader said a total of 50 kilometres of
road have been widened under the Taka 305-crore Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf
Highway Improvement Project.

About 25 kilometres road from Cox’s Bazar to Ukhiya was widened in
the first package of the first phase of the project, while another 25
kilometre road from Ukhiya to Unchiprang was expanded in the second
package, he said.

Quader, also the Awami League General Secretary, said a number
Rohingya camps were built up along this highway.

He said diplomats, representatives of NGOs, and guests both from
home and abroad travel through the highway every day to oversee
various projects taken for the Rohingyas.

Besides, the road transport and bridges minister said, the highway
is playing an important role in the country’s overall economy by
bringing the Sabrang Economic Zone of Teknaf under the communication
network.

Mentioning that the government is giving priority to upgrading the
Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway into four-lane, he said the development
plans taken by the government in Chittagong Hill Tracts and Cox’s
Bazar are moving forward, while a comprehensive development plan is
being implemented in Cox’s Bazar.

Shaimum Sarwar Kamal, MP, Secretary of the Road Transport and
Highways Division Md Nazrul Islam, ADB Country Director Manmohan
Parkash, Roads and Highways Department Chief Engineer Abdus Sabur,
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md Mamunur Rashid, Additional Chief
Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department (Chattogram Zone) Abdul
Wahid, among others, joined the function through videoconferencing.
